Original is a Chalk Drawing
This drawing was prepared for an auction to feed the poor. I agonized as I tried to find inspiration this week. This was not the first image I had. At first I had the flag flowing in the background among the clouds. I stopped at a store to buy a frame, but could not find the right one. As I searched, a frame fell three times. Thank goodness it had Plexiglas on it. The noise alerted a clerk, who asked me if I was okay. I told her these frames did not seem right. I asked her if she liked my drawing (I had the first one with the flag in the background). Immediately she informed me that the stars could not be on the right side of the page. I had placed the flag as if the flag was hanging down on its side. I was so down…all that work and lost sleep!! I was on the brink of giving up!! I put the frames back & decided to go home. She apologized for ruining my day, yet I told her I believed God sent her as a messenger!
I went home and went back to work. I was amazed how it all came together
In a few hours! I was inspired to keep it simple and subtle using light to enhance the image of the hungry children. Giving to the children in India and Africa, where I have traveled, gave me such joy to watch them light up. We receive so much when we give to the poor!!
This scripture describes this picture.
“If you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday.” – Isaiah 58:10
